China is a land of history and refinement unparalleled in the world. Attentive visitors are immersed in a sea of visual and cultural experiences unlike any other.
This tour focuses on Shanghai, China’s most populous city and economic powerhouse. The European Bund still retains the glamour of the colonial era. Modern western style malls, pubs and boutique stores scatter all around the center of Shanghai. Visit the traditional literati Yuyuan Garden, the atmospheric former French Concession, and spend some time exploring the Shanghai Museum, one of the best in the country.
Take a high speed train to the nearby Hangzhou, which is located to the south of Shanghai along the coast and was described as paradise on earth in ancient times. Enjoy boating on the beautiful West Lake. Visit enchanting Buddhist temples and sip the freshness of Longjing Tea grown on the rolling hills surrounding the city. Hangzhou has been voted the best livable city in China numerous times.
Another high speed train ride takes to Suzhou, where literati gardens remain the way they have been for centuries with bamboo groves, rockery hills and miniature waterfalls splashing into pond-sized lakes filled with colored carp and lotus leaves. The Grand Canal, with its many artery branches running through the old town, symbolizes the imperial power of the old dynasties.
Return to Shanghai for an overnight stay and fly to your next destination.
"My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Yunnan. The tour itinerary was well thought out, combined with the nice weather, great accommodations and the friendly group of fellow travelers - overall, it was a fantastic trip! I want to give kudos to the professional, hard-working tour guides we had throughout out trip, especially Vivian in Yunnan, who went out of her way to make sure that our group was well taken care of! "
“The entire trip was well coordinated. Accommodations were good and all of the guides were knowledgable and pleasant to be with. We enjoyed the entire trip and believe that our most enjoyable experiences came from the Japanese people and culture. If I go back to Japan, I would definitely spend more time in the mountains for hiking."
"Great trip and overall a spectacular success! Thailand is a gem - great history, great artifacts, wonderful people, etc. The hotels were first rate on all fronts and I would not even begin to hesitate to recommend any of them. Particularly in Bangkok, where in the past I have stayed in big, corporate hotels, the hotel was great. Perfect location, great service, great food, etc. Vietnam was really interesting and I am really glad I went, but it is not Thailand. However, Hanoi is a fascinating place to just wander the streets and we ended up doing a cooking class that turned out to be really fun and really well done. As part of that, we went through some of the local markets which was the perfect way to experience Hanoi from the ground."
